Trinity Christian DB Tyreke Johnson named to Army All-American Bowl

Johnson is the 4th Conqueror named to Army All-American Bowl

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Trinity Christian star defensive back Tyreke Johnson is the latest Conqueror to be named to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Johnson was named to the 2018 game on Thursday. He follows in the footsteps of former Trinity Christian teammates Shaun Wade (Ohio State) and D.J. Matthews (Florida State) who played in the 2017 game.

“The program has many greats before me and will have many greats after me,” said Johnson. “One person doesn’t make our program. Coach Dorminey (Verlon) tells us that every day. I could leave the program today and it would still succeed.  Coach Dorminey could leave the program and it would still succeed because we generally care about each other. When you have people who care about you even with a little bit of talent you can go far.”

Johnson, who is currently the No. 6 overall recruit in the state of Florida, will play in the annual East vs. West matchup on Saturday, January 6, 2018 in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The Bowl will be nationally televised, live on NBC at 12:00 Noon CST, and will feature the nation’s top 100 high school football players.

This honor is a long time coming for Johnson. He’s been playing on varsity at Trinity Christian since the seventh grade and received his invite to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl following his ninth grade season. Johnson has over 25 college offers including Florida, FSU, Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama. At the moment he’s uncommitted but says that he will make a decision soon.
