Ran Carthon says he has been so busy earning a job as an NFL general manager that he hasn't had time to contemplate the history and meaning of becoming the Tennessee Titans' first Black GM.

A person familiar with the decision says the Tennessee Titans are hiring San Francisco director of player personnel Ran Carthon as their new general manager.

Adams Strunk fired Ken Whisenhunt in November 2015 and fired Mike Mularkey in January 2018 after the Titans' first playoff berth since 2008 when Tennessee reached the divisional round.
