Hundreds of people lined up Saturday in the English city of Bristol to get the latest work by elusive street artist Banksy โ a T-shirt created to help four defendants charged over the toppling of a local statue of a slave trader. The gray shirt features the word Bristol above the empty plinth on which the statue of 17th-century slave merchant Edward Colston long stood, with a rope hanging from it and debris scattered around. Anti-racism demonstrators pulled down the statue and and dumped it in Bristol harbor in June 2020 amid global protests sparked by the police killing of a Black American man, George Floyd. Banksyโs identity has never been confirmed, but he began his career spray-painting walls and bridges in Bristol, a port city in southwest England.

Blockchain company buys and burns Banksy artwork to turn it into a digital original
Injective Protocol, the company behind the stunt, bought the screenprint "Morons (White)" from New York's Taglialatella Gallery, then burned it Monday evening. While digital art has recently become popular, this event is the first major instance in which a physical artwork was turned into a unique digital asset, according to Injective Protocol executive Mirza Uddin. Representatives from the Taglialatella Gallery confirmed that the print was sold to Injective Protocol in January. According to Injective Protocol, Taglialatella Gallery was not aware the print would be destroyed when it was sold. For example, NFTs can be linked to digital photos, videos, virtual trading cards in video games and even digital artwork.

BRUSSELS โ Street artist Banksy has lost a legal battle with a a greeting card company along with a European Union trademark for one of his most iconic artworks. The decision, which can be appealed, followed a dispute between U.K. greeting card company Full Colour Black Ltd. and the company that authenticates and handles requests dealing with Banksy's work, Pest Control Office Ltd. The greeting card company also noted that Banksy wrote in one of his books that โcopyright is for losers." After Full Colour Black started legal proceedings, Banksy opened an online store called Gross Domestic Product to sell his own range of merchandise. The contested (trademark) was filed in order for Banksy to have legal rights over the sign as he could not rely on copyright rights, but that is not a function of a trademark."
Banksy's last COVID-19 tags scrubbed from London Tube train
LONDON Even if you are Banksy, tagging is forbidden on London's Underground. Transport for London, the transportation agency for the greater London area, scrubbed the acclaimed street artist's latest work on the subject of COVID-19 from one of its trains, erasing a visual warning on the dangers of skipping face coverings. Banksy uploaded a a 59-second video to his Instagram and YouTube pages on Tuesday that showed him spray painting on a Circle Line train. One memorable image shows a sickly rat with a runny nose that sneezes and spreads a spray of droplets across a window. Transport for London officials say the works were removed because of a strict anti-graffiti policy.

Italian authorities had announced last month that they had discovered the painted door in an attic in a country home in Abruzzo. French Ambassador Christian Masset said the door was a witness to the attack but also an escape route. Thanks to this door more lives were saved.Standing next to the piece after it was unveiled, Renzo said Italy was proud to return the painting to its rightful owners.

Just 48 hours after it appeared in Bristol, England, Banksy's latest mural has been vandalized. The mural features a young girl using a slingshot to playfully fire red flowers into the air. The family that owns the home has since covered up the mural to protect it. On Sunday, Woodruff told The Associated Press they have added temporary fencing and installed closed-circuit television cameras. "Due to the mindless vandalism to the artwork, the family have taken the very difficult decision to cover the artwork to try to protect it," Woodruff said.
