Sheriff: Navy officer accused of fatally shooting husband

A 34-year-old chief petty officer at Naval Air Station Pensacola is accused of locking her husband in their garage and fatally shooting him as he spoke to a 911 dispatcher, officials said. Bree Kuhn of Gulf Breeze was arrested Wednesday night and charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the death of Collin James Turner, 34. “It’s just a sad case — a very sad case — of people arguing, and then, it gets to this point,” Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said during a news conference Thursday.

Missouri voters dump never-used redistricting reforms

– Two years after Missouri voters enacted a first-of-its-kind initiative intended to create “partisan fairness” in voting districts, they have changed their minds. “I don’t think there’s a problem with letting voters reconsider it,” said Republican state Sen. Dan Hegeman, who sponsored this year's measure. The original Clean Missouri measure also limited lobbyist gifts and campaign contributions to lawmakers, and made lawmakers' records open to the public. Republican lawmakers also paired the redistricting changes with slightly lower limits on lobbyist gifts and campaign contributions. Hegeman said they merely were mirroring the approach of the original Clean Measure measure.

Man Accidentally Shoots Son-in-Law Who Was Trying to Pull Off Birthday Surprise

What was supposed to be a birthday celebration ended in tragedy when a man accidentally shot his son-in-law who was trying to surprise him. Christopher Bergan, who lives in Norway, flew in to to visit his father-in-law, Richard Dennis, in Pensacola, Florida, where he used to live, on Tuesday. "Anybody who is religious out there, you need to pray for this family, Johnson said at a press conference. "I can't imagine what they're going through ... it's horrible.Johnson noted that earlier that evening another family member had come banging on Dennis front door and startled him. They had a verbal altercation before the relative left, police said.
