The national security law criminalizes secession, subversion, collusion with foreign forces to intervene in the cityโ€™s affairs as well as terrorism. U.K. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab earlier called the charges โ€œdeeply disturbingโ€ and said the national security law was being used to eliminate political dissent.

They allegedly violated the national security law that was imposed by Beijing for participating in unofficial election primaries for Hong Kong's legislature last year.
