Parents of the 27 campers and counselors killed when floodwaters rushed through a girl's summer camp in the Texas Hill Country pleaded with lawmakers to pass a bill that would boost camp safety.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has asked the state Supreme Court on Tuesday to remove from office a top state lawmaker he called the “ringleader” of Democrats who left the state to block a vote on a new congressional voting map pushed by President Donald Trump.

Texas lawmakers are scrutinizing the state’s emergency response to the July 4 floods that killed at least 136 people.
