The Duval County school district and the union representing food service workers reached a tentative agreement ahead of a potential strike that would have left Duval County Public Schools in jeopardy.

Contract negotiations have broken down between the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, the union representing the food service workers in the Duval County Public Schools system, and Chartwells K12, the district’s food service provider.

A student at a Westside high school told News4Jax he is frustrated and concerned for student safety after long lines leading into the school’s cafeteria have become a daily ritual.
