A U.K. border official and a former Hong Kong police officer have been convicted of assisting China’s spy agency by conducting “shadow” policing operations in Britain.

The head of the U.K.'s National Cyber Security Centre warns that hostile nations like Russia, Iran and China are behind the most serious cyberattacks in the U.K. In a speech Wednesday, Richard Horne said British businesses need to prepare for large-scale cyberattacks, especially if the U.K. becomes involved in international conflicts.

Instead, it has adopted a three-tier system for England, with areas classed as medium, high or very high virus risk. The measures have caused tension between Johnson’s Conservative government and local authorities in northern England, which has the country’s highest infection rates. Wednesday’s announcement about South Yorkshire means 7.3 million people, or 13% of England’s population, have been placed under the toughest restrictions — all of them in the north.
