Democrats with few electoral outlets for their outrage at President Donald Trump’s dramatic restructuring of the federal government are pouring millions of dollars into two special elections in Florida.

Republicans have surged ahead of Democrats when it comes to in-person, early voting in Florida.

Candidates have been making their case for months, but in the closing weeks reports of election misinformation have become an issue.

The St. Johns County Republican Party urged Republican voters to double-check their voter guides before heading to the polls at the start of early voting Saturday.

But Republicans are confident they can close the gap with Election Day turnout. This is when our voters, they prefer to vote in person on Election Day, traditionally. If 3.1 million show up to the polls on Election Day, the state will have surpassed the previous turnout record set in 1992. In 2016, Trump led by two-tenths of a point going into Election Day, but ultimately came out 1.2 percent ahead in the results.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Democratic candidates in the state are now facing attack ads from their Republican opponents, accusing their campaigns of receiving funds from a pandemic assistance loan meant for small businesses. The loan was secured by the Florida Democratic Party earlier this year, but the candidates facing the attacks call them misleading and untrue. You may have received a mailer or even seen a TV spot, accusing a local candidate of receiving funds from a $780,000 PPP loan secured by the Democratic Party in May. Ausley is one of three candidates targeted. A public financial report released in August shows the Democratic Party of Florida paid back the initial loan, with interest.

A circuit judge Friday rejected a challenge to the constitutionality of a Leon County ordinance that requires people to wear face masks in businesses to try to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The ruling came as many local governments across Florida have passed mask mandates --- and as controversy has swirled around Gov. The Leon County Commission passed the ordinance June 23 amid a surge of coronavirus cases in the state. As of Friday morning, Florida reported 244,151 cases since the pandemic began, with 2,161 cases in Leon County. Leon County is home to Florida State University, Florida A&M University and Tallahassee Community College.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The Florida Democratic Party applied for and received $780,000 from the Payroll Protection Program, but the party should not have applied in the first place. Criticism for accepting the PPP money has come from both inside and outside the Democratic Party. In a statement, the Florida Democratic Party said, in part: The bank, the loan processor and agents of the Small Business Association approved the funding. I really wish that the Trump administration was as responsive when it came to actually funding PPP, said Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried, the lone statewide elected Democrat. At least one Tallahassee lobbying firm has also returned PPP money.

Starting at midnight Thursday, people entering businesses in the states capital will be required to wear a face mask or face fines between $50 and $250. But Leon County Republican Party Chair Evan Power said the lawsuit he intends to file will make a privacy argument because the ordinance exempts people with certain health issues from wearing a mask. Florida does have heightened privacy protections embedded in the state Constitution, but Morley is skeptical a court would strike the ordinance down. But Dr. Ron Saff, who has advocated for a statewide mask mandate on behalf of Physicians for Social Responsibility, hopes that isnt the case. The governor does not typically wear a mask during news briefings at the Capitol and has consistently rejected the idea of issuing a statewide mask order amid the coronavirus pandemic, citing concerns over equal enforcement.
