Democratic Rep. Jahana Hayes has been re-elected to Connecticut's 5th Congressional District, beating GOP challenger George Logan.

While the odds are in their favor, as of Wednesday, the House GOP isn’t there yet as the majority isn’t in their grasp and the balance of power in the chamber is still in play

Democrats were confident this past summer that a Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade would drive angry voters to the polls and keep the party in the House majority. But in the final days before the election, Republicans have gained ground with voters who say the economy is their No. 1 priority, putting districts previously seen as safe for Democrats, like Hayes’s, in play.

Democratic Rep. Jahana Hayes and her opponent, Republican candidate George Logan, are tied in their Connecticut midterm election with just over a week to go.

The few Republican candidates across the U.S. this year who say they support abortion rights still find themselves under attack on the issue.

Republicans argued that the plan didn't force federal agencies to look for formula that could be redirected to U.S. homes immediately.

Lawmakers and activists are calling to remove freshman GOP Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Education Committee and from Congress. Democratic Rep. Jahana Hayes circulated a letter Thursday asking House Republican leadership to remove Greene from her appointment on the House Committee on Education and Labor. The Republican Jewish Coalition released a statement Friday saying the group "has never supported or endorsed Marjorie Taylor Greene. Rep. Cori Bush, a Democrat from Missouri, said Friday she is moving her office away from Greene's after the Georgia congresswoman "berated" her. Her Democratic opponent dropped out of the race and Greene won her seat in the northern Georgia district by nearly 50 percentage points.

Lily Eskelsen García, who was president of the National Education Association until September, has been calling members of Congress to build support for her candidacy. The caucus drew attention to Biden's proposals to confront racial disparities in education, saying Eskelsen García has been pursuing that work for decades. Andrade called her a “bona fide, proven educator” with a compelling personal story and a firm commitment to public education. “You will not find a bigger contrast in people than between DeVos and Eskelsen García,” Andrade said. Supporters of Eskelsen García say her nomination would fulfill Biden’s promise to install an education chief with experience working in public education.
