TV legend Norman Lear credits journey to laughter, family

In this video grab issued Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, by NBC, Norman Lear accepts the Carol Burnett television achievement award at the Golden Globe Awards. (NBC via AP)LOS ANGELES – Norman Lear made TV relevant with “All in the Family” and more 20th-century sitcoms, and he's accomplished the same for himself as a working producer who's nearing his 99th birthday. But Lear was modest as he accepted the Carol Burnett Award for his decades of achievement — and the decades themselves — at Sunday's virtual Golden Globes ceremony. “I've had a lifetime of partners, performers, associations and creative talents for which I am eternally grateful,” Lear said, adding there would be “an entirely different Norman Lear here with you tonight” without them. The Carol Burnett Award is an honorary Golden Globe given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for outstanding contributions to television.

Kevin Hart to host famed telethon long hosted by Jerry Lewis

LOS ANGELES Kevin Hart will host the return of a popular telethon once spearheaded by the late Jerry Lewis to fight muscular dystrophy. The Muscular Dystrophy Association announced Wednesday that Hart will host the MDA Kevin Hart Kids Telethon. Hart said the telethons return is an incredible opportunity to bring back the work of Lewis, who helped make the Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon a television tradition for decades. Lewis stepped down as host in 2011 and the association held its last telethon three years later. She hopes the telethon can continue to help raise awareness to therapies for muscular dystrophy and other related neuromuscular diseases.

Four dead in apparent murder-suicide in suburban Atlanta

ATLANTA (Reuters) - A gunman shot dead three people at a home in Stone Mountain, Georgia, late on Tuesday, and then drove home and killed himself, said police. Three adults, two women and one man, were found dead in a driveway and in a carport after a shooting was reported about 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Lewis said. The witness knew the suspect and police went to the mans home about 2 miles away and found him dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot, Lewis said. This is not a random incident, there is no threat to the community, Lewis said. The identities of the dead were not released, pending notification of next-of-kin.
