Whitesell says he has tested negative for the novel coronavirus, but is taking leave from the Mid-American Conference team to follow local health protocols. Whitesell says the person who tested positive is not associated with the team or school. He will continue communicating with his staff and players remotely, while assistant Angres Thorpe takes over in Whitesell’s absence.

Editor's Note: The Big Ten on Wednesday voted to eliminate the six-game requirement, allowing Ohio State to advance to the championship game. Saturday's scheduled football game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines has been canceled. The cancellation means Ohio State will not reach the necessary six games required to be eligible for the Big Ten Championship Game. Ohio State is currently undefeated and ranked 4th in the country. The Hoosiers are currently 6-1, with the sole loss coming at the hands of Ohio State.

3 Ohio State banked some style points during its rout of Michigan State, but the next step toward any kind of championship for the Buckeyes this season could be out of their control. Ohio State has had its own problems with the coronavirus. Among those taken out of action was coach Ryan Day, who had to stay home and watch the Michigan State game on TV. So would another loss to the Buckeyes, who have won the rivalry game in each of Harbaugh's first five years at Michigan. Day said he was proud of how the Buckeyes moved past the rough, uncertain week to dominate Michigan State.

It might not have been the plan to cut Ohio State, the league's clear favorite and defending champ, some slack. When the SEC redid its schedule to make it 10 conference games, the league ended up feeding its weaker teams to its powerhouses.
