The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has posted body camera footage of a deadly police-involved shooting of a 34-year-old man in the Panama Park neighborhood that was ruled justified by the 4th Circuit State Attorney’s Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Surveillance video showing the moments Jacksonville police officers shot and killed 34-year-old Justin Reed outside his home Wednesday night has raised questions as to why Reed didn’t call the police when he noticed a suspicious vehicle outside. But residents in the Panama Park neighborhood said both sides could have acted differently to change the outcome. JSO said the shooting happened during a gang investigation and the officers inside an unmarked vehicle were waiting on other units to arrive. Surveillance video, shared with News4Jax by a nearby church, then shows Reed point the weapon at the SUV with three officers inside.

The man, later identified as Justin Reed, can be seen on surveillance video approaching the SUV on the passenger side while holding the rifle. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Assistant Chief T.K. No police got out and said, ‘This is the Sheriff’s Office.’ Nothing,” Watson said. The surveillance video, shared with News4Jax by a nearby church, then shows Reed point the weapon at the SUV with three officers inside. The officers could be seen in the surveillance video wearing body cameras, but JSO said they did not capture the shooting.
