His gigantism (acromegaly) played a substantial role in his failing health. Four Gateway Conference programs wrapped up district championships on Thursday night and stamped their tickets for the state playoffs on the first of two nights of football this week.

After more than a decade of struggles, Jackson is contending again. If the Tigers beat Raines a week from Friday, they’ll clinch the district title for the first time since 2009.
