The 30 players with college eligibility remaining after completing their degree requirements had to notify the NFL of their intentions for the draft. Players less than four years removed from high school who have not completed a degree need to be granted special entry to the draft by the NFL. Southern California has the most players leaving early for NFL draft eligibility with six. Stanford and Ohio State matched Alabama with five each.

Alabama QB, Bolles product Mac Jones opts for NFL draft after record season
The Alabama quarterback and Bolles School product announced his decision on Thursday afternoon, along with three teammates, defensive lineman Christian Barmore, cornerback Patrick Surtain II and receiver Jaylen Waddle. He passed for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns during a dominant season for Alabama. Jones could be positioned as the highest draft pick from Bolles should he go where some projections have him as. One CBSSports mock draft has Jones going sixth to Carolina, although others place him in the mid- to late first round. Tight end Hayden Hurst was the 25th overall pick by the Ravens in 2018, the highest draft spot for a Bolles football alum.

Of those 28 players ahead of Jones, Tagovailoa and Jake Fromm both entered the NFL draft early and just completed their rookie seasons in the league.

Jones and Smith are the eighth set of teammates to be finalists together since the tradition started in 1982. Smith is trying to become the first wide receiver to win the Heisman since Michigan's Desmond Howard in 1991. Jones or Smith would become Alabama's third Heisman winner, but first that is not a running back. Iowa State running back Breece Hall was sixth, followed by Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, BYU quarterback Zach Wilson, Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book and Florida tight end Kyle Pitts.
