Cuomo issues clemency for 10 people in last days as governor

In his last days in office, Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday granted clemency to 10 people, among them a man whose unsuccessful campaign for exoneration in a 1998 killing was championed by actor Martin Sheen. Cuomo fully pardoned five people and commuted the sentences of another five, including Jon-Adrian Velazquez. A pardon wipes away a conviction, while a commutation shortens a sentence but lets the conviction stand.

Estevez reprises his role as youth hockey coach Gordon Bombay for the Disney+ streaming service's “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers," debuting March 26. Set in contemporary Minnesota, the Ducks are now a successful, win-at-all costs team. AdEstevez, part of an acting family that includes father Martin Sheen ("The West Wing") and brother Charlie Sheen ("Two and a Half Men"), said he had largely stepped away from acting to make independent films, including 1996's “The War at Home.”

The 2021 Sundance Film Festival, which kicks off Jan. 28, is going largely virtual this year due to the pandemic. “Judas...” is among the 2021 Warner Bros. films that are debuting simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max. It’ll be available for HBO Max subscribers in the U.S. starting Feb. 12.

It was updated on Jan. 16, 2021, to correct the name of an actor who stars in the television series “Prodigal Son.” It is Michael Sheen, not Martin Sheen.

'The West Wing' cast reunites again, this time for a book

NEW YORK – The stars of “The West Wing” are once again joining together, this time for a book about the award-winning White House television drama. On Monday, Dutton announced that it had acquired “What's Next: A Citizen's Guide to The West Wing,” organized by actors Melissa Fitzgerald and Mary McCormack, with the participation of Martin Sheen, Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney and series creator Aaron Sorkin among others. “What's Next” will combine memories of the NBC program, which ran from 1999-2006, with “a powerful case for competent and empathetic leadership, and for hope and optimism in what lies ahead," according to Dutton, which has not set a release date. In a joint statement, Fitzgerald and McCormack said the book was "for the millions of fans who love the show, and also to show how that love, hope and optimism it has engendered has been channeled into real world service and action. The series won four consecutive best drama series Emmy Awards beginning in 2000.

Jane Fonda continued her weekly tradition of protesting in Washington, D.C. for "Fire Drill Fridays" on Friday and this time actor Joaquin Phoenix was there. Ira Arlook from Fire Drill Fridays told CBS News that Phoenix, as well as actor Martin Sheen, were arrested. Fire Drill Fridays tweeted, saying he called out the meat and dairy industry for its contribution to climate change. According to Fire Drill Fridays, Friday's protest was Jane Fonda's last before she returns to Los Angeles. Fire Drill Fridays said over 300 people signed up to risk arrest during Friday's protest.
