The New York State attorney general's office has contacted multiple women who have raised concerns about sexual harassment at NBC News, according to two people familiar with the matter, as part of an initial inquiry into those concerns. On Monday, NBCUniversal announced that NBC News chairman Andy Lack will step down at the end of this month as part of a larger corporate reorganization. In late 2017, Lack personally went to the apartment of "TODAY" anchor Matt Lauer to fire him, following accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior. A spokeswoman for NBCUniversal said Tuesday afternoon that the company was "unaware" of any investigation by the attorney general's office.

On Tuesday, NBC News laid off about a dozen staffers while sunsetting its digital video studio "NBC Left Field." The New York Times, which first reported the union plans, wrote that NBC News digital employees uncovered pay disparities between white men and women and minorities after creating an anonymous spreadsheet of salaries. The union includes about 150 editorial employees at NBCNews.com, Today.com, Stay Tuned, MSNBC.com and online streaming network NBC News Now. Lauer has denied the accusations of rape, saying the sexual encounters he had were consensual.

Farrow's former producer, Rich McHugh, wrote in Vanity Fair that NBC abdicated its responsibility to relentlessly pursue and tell the truth. Farrow wrote of doubts by Oppenheim that Weinstein was a figure many viewers knew or even cared about. That colleague told Farrow that Lauer raped her in a Sochi hotel room in 2014; Lauer described the sex as consensual. Farrow wrote that Weinstein "had made it known to the network that he was aware of Lauer's behavior and was capable of revealing it." The bad blood between Farrow and NBC News has led to a laundry list of he said-he said claims.

"Again, I can't answer specific questions about that but I can say that Matt Lauer's thinking that's represented in this letter is in the book," Farrow replied, referring to Lauer's open letter statement. "Did they allow it because they were afraid information about Matt Lauer was going to get out?" Nevils went on to call Lauer's open letter "a case study in victim blaming." A representative for Farrow also released a statement in the wake of Lauer's open letter. "I was deeply shocked and saddened by Matt Lauer's letter yesterday in response to Brooke's allegations of sexual assault," Zinone said in part.

Brooke Nevils is not letting Matt Lauer's statement stand. In a statement toNBC Nightly News on Wednesday, Nevils slammed Lauer's lengthy statement. Lauer, who was terminated by the network two years ago after Nevils complained of "inappropriate sexual behavior" on Lauer's part, hit back hard Wednesday against her new accusations of rape. We performed oral sex on each other, we had vaginal sex, and we had anal sex. But on this night, she said, Lauer pushed her onto the bed, "asking if she liked anal sex," Farrow wrote. It was nonconsensual in that I said, multiple times, that I didn't want to have anal sex," Farrow quotes her as saying. I want to say that we know it wasnt easy for our colleague Brooke to come forward then.

(CNN) - When NBC News fired Matt Lauer two years ago, the network said an employee accused him of "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace." NBC News responded by saying, in a statement, "Matt Lauer's conduct was appalling, horrific and reprehensible, as we said at the time. Nevils told Farrow in an interview that the rape occurred while she was in Sochi, Russia, covering the 2014 Winter Olympics. Lauer invited her up to his room but, according to Farrow, Nevils said she "had no reason to suspect Lauer would be anything but friendly based on prior experience." Nevils told Farrow that once in the room, Lauer forced himself on her and raped her.

Matt Lauer is having fun with his 16-year-old daughter, Romy. Last month, Lauer and Romy's mom, Annette Roque, finalized their divorce almost two years after they separated in 2017. In August, Lauer and 52-year-old Roque were snapped supporting Romy at the Hampton Classic Horse Show, smiling big while standing together. Matt Lauer and Annette Roque are officially ending their marriage. ET can confirm that Roque filed for divorce from her husband in Suffolk County Court on Tuesday, July 2. Late last month, a source told ET that Lauer, 61, and Roque, 52, were still finalizing the separation of assets as part of their divorce.
