New York attorney general looking into sexual harassment concerns at NBC News

The New York State attorney general's office has contacted multiple women who have raised concerns about sexual harassment at NBC News, according to two people familiar with the matter, as part of an initial inquiry into those concerns. More from NBC News:A spokesperson for the attorney general's office declined to comment. On Monday, NBCUniversal announced that NBC News chairman Andy Lack will step down at the end of this month as part of a larger corporate reorganization. In late 2017, Lack personally went to the apartment of "TODAY" anchor Matt Lauer to fire him, following accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior. A spokeswoman for NBCUniversal said Tuesday afternoon that the company was "unaware" of any investigation by the attorney general's office.

NBC News Digital staff announces plan to unionize

On Tuesday, NBC News laid off about a dozen staffers while sunsetting its digital video studio "NBC Left Field." The New York Times, which first reported the union plans, wrote that NBC News digital employees uncovered pay disparities between white men and women and minorities after creating an anonymous spreadsheet of salaries. The union includes about 150 editorial employees at NBCNews.com, Today.com, Stay Tuned, MSNBC.com and online streaming network NBC News Now. "Any former NBC News employee who believes that they cannot disclose their experience with sexual harassment as a result of a confidentiality or non-disparagement provision in their separation agreement should contact NBCUniversal and we will release them from that perceived obligation," the statement reads. Maddow read the statement before interviewing Ronan Farrow, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who has reported on sexual misconduct in the media industry. Lauer has denied the accusations of rape, saying the sexual encounters he had were consensual.

Farrow details lack of enthusiasm at NBC for Weinstein story

Farrow's former producer, Rich McHugh, wrote in Vanity Fair that NBC abdicated its responsibility to relentlessly pursue and tell the truth. Farrow wrote of doubts by Oppenheim that Weinstein was a figure many viewers knew or even cared about. That colleague told Farrow that Lauer raped her in a Sochi hotel room in 2014; Lauer described the sex as consensual. Farrow wrote that Weinstein "had made it known to the network that he was aware of Lauer's behavior and was capable of revealing it." The bad blood between Farrow and NBC News has led to a laundry list of he said-he said claims.

Former NBC staffer accuses Matt Lauer of rape in book

(CNN) - When NBC News fired Matt Lauer two years ago, the network said an employee accused him of "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace." NBC News responded by saying, in a statement, "Matt Lauer's conduct was appalling, horrific and reprehensible, as we said at the time. Nevils told Farrow in an interview that the rape occurred while she was in Sochi, Russia, covering the 2014 Winter Olympics. Lauer invited her up to his room but, according to Farrow, Nevils said she "had no reason to suspect Lauer would be anything but friendly based on prior experience." Nevils told Farrow that once in the room, Lauer forced himself on her and raped her.
