Wrongful death lawsuit filed over Naya Rivera's drowning

VENTURA, Calif. – A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed over the drowning of “Glee” actor Naya Rivera, who died this summer while boating with her 4-year-old son on a California lake. The suit, filed Tuesday, blames Ventura County and managers of Lake Piru for her accidental death on July 8 at the lake northwest of Los Angeles. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said Rivera's body was most likely trapped in thick vegetation underwater for several days before floating to the top. A call seeking comment from Ventura County wasn't immediately returned Wednesday night. A county spokesperson declined to comment to Fox News, saying the county hadn't been served with the lawsuit.

LOS ANGELES – An autopsy report released Friday says “Glee” actor Naya Rivera raised her arm and called for help as she accidentally drowned while boating with her 4-year-old son on a California lake. Once his mother had helped him back on to the boat, the boy “noticed the decedent put her arm up in the air and yelled ‘help,’" the report from the Ventura County Medical Examiner says. Rivera “knew how to swim well,” the report said. Josey, Rivera's son with her former husband, actor Ryan Dorsey, was found sleeping and alone on the drifting boat later that afternoon. Another co-star, Mark Salling, who Rivera dated at one point, killed himself in 2018 at age 35 after pleading guilty to child pornography charges.

LOS ANGELES A college fund is being created for Naya Rivera's son by the creators of Glee, who remembered the performer as joyful and immensely talented. Naya was more than just an actor on our show she was our friend, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan said in a statement Tuesday. Riveras body was found Monday in Southern Californias Lake Piru, five days after she and Josey had gone out on a rented boat. Our hearts go out to her family, especially her mom, Yolanda, who was a big part of the Glee family, and her son Josey, the three producers said, referring to the 4-year-old as the beautiful son Naya loved most of all.Josey is Riveras son with her former husband, actor Ryan Dorsey. ... She was a joy to write for, a joy to direct and a joy to be around, they said.

NEW YORK Naya Rivera, a singer and actress who played a gay cheerleader on the hit TV musical comedy Glee, was found dead Monday in a Southern California lake. What a force you were, wrote Glee co-star Jane Lynch on Twitter. She is survived by her parents, Yolanda and George; a younger brother, Mychal; a sister, Nickayla; and her 4-year-old son. Naya Rivera was a fierce talent with so much more to do and this is such a terrible tragedy. In the preface to her autobiography, Rivera wrote that motherhood had changed her life and given it perspective.

She must have mustered enough energy to get her son back on the boat, but not enough to save herself, Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub said at a news conference. The mother and son had gone swimming, which was permitted in that part of the lake, Ayub said. Surveillance video showed the mother and son parking and renting the boat at about 1 p.m. on July 8. The boy, Riveras son from her marriage to actor Ryan Dorsey, was safe and healthy and quickly reunited with family members after he was found, authorities said.
