$4.9M payout to family of man shot 9 times by California cop
The family of a mentally ill man shot nine times by a police officer in a wealthy San Francisco Bay Area suburb has received a $4.9 million settlement from the town and county where the officer worked, nearly three years after the 2018 fatal shooting.

Protesters invoke different names to decry police treatment
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, people gathered in a spot where white mobs killed hundreds of blacks a century ago and chanted the name of Terence Crutcher. Terence Crutcher was fatally shot in 2016 by a white police officer, Betty Shelby, who was later acquitted of manslaughter. The shooting remains under investigation, and Ramos' mom, Brenda Ramos, questioned why the officer who shot him hasn't been arrested or at least suspended. Now I am in this terrible heartbreaking club," Ramos' mom, Brenda Ramos, told reporters over the weekend. Andrew Cuomo posted a slide with the names of many black men killed or abused by police in cities around the nation.
Transit system apologizes to black rider cuffed for eating
BART officials said the officer was passing by on another call when he asked Foster not to eat. When the officer walked by again and saw Foster still eating, he went to issue a citation. Foster said Monday that he knew eating was not allowed on trains but did not realize it was banned on platforms. The transit system carries about 400,000 people daily, linking San Francisco to the East Bay. Another protest is planned for the weekend, called "Eat a McMuffin on BART: They Can't Stop Us All."
