Authorities will consider giving it to older people after they analyze a U.S. study that AstraZeneca said showed the jab provides strong protection to all adults, Spanish Health Minister Carolina Darias said Monday. AdLike several other European countries, Spain stopped administering the AstraZeneca vaccine last week. Central and regional health officials in Spain cleared the way for resuming shots of the AstraZeneca vaccine and also approved administering the vaccine to people ages 18-65. Citing a lack of studies on its performance in older people, Spain had previously restricted its use in adults under 55 years old.

Europe's jobless rate steady, but doesn't tell whole story
Read full article: Europe's jobless rate steady, but doesn't tell whole story(AP Photo/Alvaro Barrientos)FRANKFURT โ The unemployment rate was steady at 8.3% in December in the 19 countries that use the euro, as government support programs aimed at getting the economy through the pandemic continue to hold down layoffs โ for now. While the fact that the unemployment rate rose only modestly during the pandemic is good news, economists say government support won't last forever and that the unemployment rate will rise somewhat when such programs are withdrawn. The support also helps keep the pandemic from sapping consumer spending in shops, keeping them and the larger economy afloat as well. A renewed, small rise in unemployment is expected this year as support programs are tapered, she said. The eurozone economy is estimated to have shrunk 7.8% in 2020; official figures are to be released on Tuesday.

Little to celebrate in Pamplona with no running of the bulls
Read full article: Little to celebrate in Pamplona with no running of the bullsKnown for its races with bulls running along cobbled streets, the festival was popularized by Ernest Hemingways 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises and was last called off during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s. With more than 28,000 deaths from the novel virus and an economy in the doldrums following a strict nationwide lockdown, local authorities say there is little to celebrate. They gathered at the city hall square at noon, the time a rocket known as Chupinazo opens the 9-day festival in normal times. Revelers from all around the world respond to the rocket by bathing each other with red wine and champagne. Instead a large sign from the city halls facade displayed the slogan #WeWillExperienceThem, an invitation to revelers to return for next years celebrations.
