Shapiro insisted the Blue Jays still have flexibility to add payroll, likely to strengthen the rotation, but said โ€œthe bulk of our heavy lifting is done.โ€Springer split time between center field and right with the Astros, but is expected to become a fixture in center for the Blue Jays. โ€œThis is about the Blue Jays,โ€ Springer said.

Orioles, Maryland in talks about Blue Jays in Baltimore

TORONTO, ONT The Baltimore Orioles and the state of Maryland have had talk about the team sharing Oriole Park at Camden Yards with the displaced Toronto Blue Jays amid the coronavirus pandemic. Larry Hogan acknowledged in an interview with The Associated Press there have been talks about the state hosting the Blue Jays. The official said the Blue Jays would build a makeshift clubhouse in the stadium concourse in one scenario. The Blue Jays may find it hard to get clearance to play in Baltimore as COVID-19 cases doubled in the city in the past month. Blue Jays outfielder Randal Grichuk said Tuesday the players were told Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore is a possibility.

TORONTO, ONT The Toronto Blue Jays will play at PNC Park in Pittsburgh if the state of Pennsylvania approves it, two officials familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. Canada denied the Blue Jays request to play in Toronto because the regular-season schedule would require frequent travel back and forth from the United States, where COVID-19 cases are surging. Pirates President Travis Williams previously confirmed the talks to host the Blue Jays and sounded ready to welcome them if it could be done safely. Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said he was excited about the PNC Park option and Pirates manager Derek Shelton said he would have no problem with the Blue Jays moving in. Atkins said if the Blue Jays cant find a major league park, their Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo, New York, would be their most likely site for home games.

We would much rather be in a major league facility, Atkins said. He declined to identify the teams but said the Blue Jays have more than five contingency plans. Players have told management they want to be in a major league park. Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro said Saturday that player health is a concern in Florida.

Teams around the league were beginning to make their final preparations Sunday for the start of the abbreviated baseball season. It was definitely very difficult, the fact that I really wasnt able to work much on my swing, Robles said through an interpreter. Pitcher Anthony Bass said Sunday the players have told general manager Ross Atkins theyd prefer to play in a big league stadium if possible. So have Milwaukee first baseman Logan Morrison, Cincinnati pitcher Nate Jones, Tampa Bay pitcher Aaron Loup and New York Yankees pitcher Luis Aviln.
