This week marked one year since Northeast Florida native U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Seth Plant was killed in a bear attack on a base in Alaska. He was 30 years old.

The Palatka-born Army paratrooper, who lived in St. Augustine, survived serving in Afghanistan before he was killed May 10 while training with a small group in a remote part of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.

The body of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Seth Plant arrived at JAX Monday afternoon from Alaska -- where he died two weeks ago.

The family of a local soldier killed by a bear in Alaska invites people across Northeast Florida to come out Monday and pay their respects.
