Zoos, wildlife sanctuaries re-evaluate protocols after tiger tests positive for coronavirus
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Zoos and wildlife sanctuaries across the nation are re-evaluating and revamping their protocols to ensure the safety of both animals and employees after a tiger at the Bronx Zoo tested positive for the new coronavirus over the weekend. The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens said itโs taking it day by day and adjusting when it needs to. โObviously, with a lot more hand washing than normal,โ said Tracy Collins, spokesperson for Catty Shack Ranch. Nadia, a 4-year-old female Malayan tiger at the Bronx Zoo, has tested positive for the coronavirus.
