Burger King via CNN(CNN) - Popeyes' spicy chicken sandwich is the only thing in the fast food business that's hotter than Burger King's Impossible Whopper. That's great news for Restaurant Brands, which owns both chains. Restaurant Brands reported solid earnings for the third quarter Monday morning, led by a more than 10% increase in sales at Burger King and nearly 15% surge at Popeyes. The company said sales at Burger King restaurants open at least a year rose 5% in the quarter. Restaurant Brands attributed the success of the plant-based Impossible Whopper, which has been rolled out to all Burger King locations in the United States, for the strong sales.

But McDonald's is partnering with Beyond Meat on a plant-based burger in Canada. Shares of Beyond Meat surged 10% Thursday morning after McDonald's announced plans for a limited-time offering of a P.LT. Beyond Meat's stock, trading around $150, is now up about 500% from its initial public offering price of $25. It also has a deal with Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons, which is also owned by Burger King parent Restaurant Brands. If Beyond Meat is able to land a broader deal with McDonald's, that would be a big win for the company as the plant-based burger business heats up.

CNNROCHESTER, New York (CNN) - A 3-year-old boy died after falling into a restaurant grease trap Monday morning in Rochester, New York, police said. The grease trap was covered with a green plastic lid -- much like a manhole cover -- that helped it blend into the surrounding grass, he said. The grease trap is 2-and-a-half feet in diameter, according to police. Camp said a witness found the child in the grease trap minutes after he was reported missing. The city is currently pouring concrete around the opening in the ground where the grease trap was located and putting a metal lid on it, according to Camp.
