The USS Cooperstown’s departure follows recent deployments of two other Mayport-based ships — the USS Mason and the USS Donald Cook — which left port back in March.

The Navy has commissioned the USS Cooperstown, named for the New York state village where the Baseball Hall of Fame is located and honoring the 70 members who served in the military during wartime.

The pre-commissioned USS Cooperstown arrived Sunday morning ahead of possibly deploying early next year.
