A Palatka mother was arrested early Tuesday morning after deputies learned that she had left her child home alone with seven dogs while she took a multi-week vacation to Las Vegas, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

A married couple that was under a months-long investigation for suspected animal cruelty is now facing criminal charges.

News4JAX has learned that long before multiple dogs were removed from a home in Middleburg, the couple that had rented the home had recently moved out of Jacksonville where dead dogs were discovered.

A man arrested for not properly caring for 20 dogs faces charges of animal cruelty and confining animals without sufficient food and water. The city filed a petition to removed the animals from Terry Thomas. The 48-year-old man had been cited in the past for keeping animals in unsafe and unsanitary conditions.
