The University of Florida Military Alumni Association is offering a $5,000 scholarship to incoming freshmen with military ties — and organizers said the need has never been greater. The deadline to apply is April 17 at 5 p.m. on the UFAMA website.

The A.J. Laguerre Jr. Endowed Scholarship honors the memory of the 19-year-old, who was a video game and streaming enthusiast and aspired to study cybersecurity in college.

A Flagler county elementary school student received a scholarship to the Police Athletic Leagues Crime Scene Investigation Academy. The student was given the scholarship by the sheriff and a deputy for alerting authorities of a possible abduction.
