TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday in the Florida Capitol courtyard for the state's new Fallen Firefighter Memorial. A key feature of the memorial will be the names of all the firefighters in the state who have died in the line of duty, including six from 2014. The ceremony featured Gov. Rick Scott, Cabinet members and a number of family members of fallen emergency personnel. The State Fire Marshal's office has partnered with various firefighting agencies across the state to help fund the memorial, which was approved through a resolution by Scott and the Cabinet last year.

(AP) – The student who was critically injured in Thursday's shooting at Florida State University is paralyzed from the waist down, but still determined to realize his dream of becoming a biomedical engineer, his sister told reporters Monday. May was shot and killed by FSU and Tallahassee police who were on the scene in less than five minutes. At her side was FSU President John Thrasher, who pledged his full support to the Ahmed family. "Florida State University is 100 percent committed to ensuring that we do everything we can to fulfill Ronny's dream, as Farhana said, of achieving his goal of graduating from Florida State University," Thrasher said. Friends of the Ahmed family put up a fundraising website to help with Ronny's medical expenses, and donations are pouring in.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A Leon County judge denied a gag order for the former employee accusing Florida Lt. Gov. "I'm not going to enter a gag order, but I'm expecting compliance with the rule of professional conduct," said Judge Frank Sheffield. The prosecution wanted a gag order for Carletha Cole, a former employee charged with illegally recording a conversation with a member of Gov. Steve Andrews, one of Cole's attorneys, said the judge wasn't happy with out lawyers on both sides were handling the case. Even before the gag order was issued, both sides agreed to tone it down.
