The driver of a Dodge Neon, Alexis Jacquart, was traveling south on US 1 when she hit the backside of Davis' motorcycle. Davis was thrown to the side of the road and Kenney was knocked off his motorcycle.

Jacquart steered off the roadway, hitting a tree, and continued driving for a bit before stopping, investigators said.

Davis was air-lifted to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach where he remains in critical condition. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Kenney sustained minor injuries.

Investigators are not sure why Davis was originally stopped on the side of the road.
