Crash, fuel leak blocks I-95 NB at I-295 on Northside for hours

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A wreck Wednesday involving two semitractor-trailers forced all northbound lanes of Interstate 95 just before Interstate 295 near Jacksonville International Airport to close for hours.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, two semitractor-trailers were traveling northbound on I-95 at I-295, alongside one another, about 11 a.m. when the driver of one of them braked to avoid striking a disabled vehicle in the travel lane. That's when the semitrailer jackknifed, causing the driver to lose control and strike the second semitrailer, troopers said.

Firefighters with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said hazmat crews were dispatched because of diesel fuel leaking from the trucks.

No injuries were reported.

Northbound traffic was diverted onto I-295 until about 2 p.m.
