COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – If you’re planning to travel on US Highway 441 near the Alachua County line in Columbia County, keep an eye out for an active 42-acre prescribed burn happening at River Rise Preserve.
This burn might send some smoke onto the roads, especially overnight and into the morning, so it’s good to be prepared.
Visibility could drop pretty quickly, particularly during the night and early morning hours. So, if you’re driving through, take it slow and switch to low-beam headlights to see better through the smoke.
This burn is a part of a controlled effort to manage the area’s vegetation and help prevent wildfires.
It’s all about keeping the environment healthy, but it does mean you might face some delays. Stay alert and give yourself a bit of extra time if you’re heading through this area.
