Woman dies when car slams into back of her SUV, causing chain-reaction pile-up on JTB: FHP

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 36-year-old woman died Saturday night after a chain-reaction pile-up on J. Turner Butler Boulevard near Belfort Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to FHP, the woman’s SUV was stuck in traffic in the right lane on JTB behind another SUV and a pick-up truck around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

A car also headed westbound in the center lane lost control, swerved into the right lane, and despite trying to brake, slammed into the back of the woman’s SUV -- pushing it forward into the other SUV and the truck, the report said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she died. Her 35-year-old male passenger suffered minor injuries.

The 41-year-old woman driving the car suffered serious injuries, according to the report.

The 25-year-old woman driving the other SUV, and a 37-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman in the pick-up truck were not hurt, FHP said.

Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt, the report shows.
