History of National Donut Day is rooted in World War I

Back in 1917, The Salvation Army's so called Donut Lassies were sent to set up field bases near the front lines in France. Thousands of soldiers would converge on their makeshift huts and stock up on essentials AND also get a sweet baked treat.
