The primary election this year features a special election for the Jacksonville City Council. Council elections are already scheduled for the spring of 2027, but At-Large Group 1 councilman Terrance Freeman is leaving office early, in order to run for Florida House District 12 in the general election. The winner of the special election, whether the outcome is decided now or in November, will complete Freeman’s original term on the council, which ends June 30, and would be able to run for a full four-year term in the spring.
This City Council seat is elected county-wide. Because it's a city election, which is done as a unitary election, it was open to all voters regardless of party affiliation.
