This year is getting off to a hot start. According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, many areas in Georgia and NE Florida have had the hottest start of the year on record.

Summer is months away but temperatures are setting the pace for what could be the hottest year on record if this trend continues into the summer months.

Winter had an unusually warm period and spring continues to see record warm days.

Cities all across central Florida and the east coast have never had such a hot start to any year on record.

Craig Executive Airport had its warmest start to a calendar year through April 30th with an average temperature +4.2°F above normal breaking the previous high of 65.2° set in 2020.

So far through May the Fort Caroline area continues to rank its hottest start of the year on record alongside two areas in Duval County.

The official recording location at Jacksonville International slipped to the 3rd hottest start to the calendar year since moving to its current site in 1971. It too comes in behind the 65.3F set in 2020.

Average temperature rankings Jan 1 through May 4, 2023

The heat has been widespread across central and northern Florida and into Goergia this spring. Both Gainesville and Brunswick had their hottest April on record.

A streak of hot days in the 90s arrives next week which should keep the heat trend going into May.

For areas like Alma Georgia dealing with its warmest calendar year on record, next week will make it challenging to unravel its record hot average.
