Tornado impact in Kansas and nearby states

In a dramatic weather event, tornadoes tore through the western half of Kansas, leaving damage in their wake but fortunately no injuries. WJXT’s meteorologist, Richard Nunn, highlighted the damage, noting homes with roofs ripped away and trees knocked down.

The scenes from Kansas showed severe destruction, with entire houses lifted, leaving just basements behind. Mobile homes were tossed unless securely lashed down. In addition to Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska experienced tornado activity, causing widespread concern.

Remarkably, early alerts through tornado sirens and local news channels ensured everyone stayed safe.

Current weather conditions and near record highs

The heat is on as temperatures hover just two degrees shy of setting new records. Currently, the thermometer reads 94 degrees, but it feels like 97 due to humidity levels below 40%.

A sea breeze front is trying to make its way inland, creating slightly cooler conditions along the coast. However, the humidity in coastal zones makes the 80s feel like the 90s.

Mornings remain pleasant, if a bit warm, with the skies looking hazy compared to earlier in the day.

Forecasted weather changes with potential severe storms

Looking ahead, there’s a slight chance of showers midweek, with WJXT’s meteorologist predicting potential for severe thunderstorms. The chances of rainfall have been updated to a 30% to 50% possibility in Southeast Georgia and parts of Northeast Florida.

Despite the high temperatures expected to stick around, there’s a hint of cooler weather as we approach the weekend. Temperatures are predicted to remain above average but might drop slightly from the midweek highs.
