Jaguars game resumes after hour-long delay

Jags Forecast

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Pack the poncho along with your patience if you’re going to the Jaguars game today. The home opener will likely be a wet one to start.

Just before 2 p.m., the game was paused due to a severe weather delay. Fans were asked to move from open areas to protected areas until it was clear for them to return to their seats.

Officials said they saw lightning, so as a precaution, the game had to be stopped. Isolated to severe storms were expected across Northeast Florida.

The game continued just after 3 p.m. Jags lead 10-3 in the second quarter.

A flood advisory was also issued for Duval County until 4:15 p.m.

Breaks in the clouds allowed the sun to warm up Everbank Stadium to the upper 80s around kickoff, but showers and thunderstorms were possible throughout the game. Humidity will remain high, keeping the feels-like temperature in the upper 90s.

As a local Nor’easter begins to set up offshore, the onshore winds will bring rainy weather to the coast before the heat of the day fuels the afternoon showers. Can’t rule out heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds to accompany isolated storms.

Sunday Futurecast

The next few days will be rainy, with mostly cloudy skies and gusty conditions as the winds prevail from the northeast. The possibility of localized flooding in low-lying areas is something to be cautious about over the next 3-5 days, especially during high tide.

High temperatures will stay below normal only reaching the mid-80s.
