Rain, thunderstorms, coastal flood risks expected to stick around this week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Good morning, friends! It’s a rainy start across Jacksonville and the surrounding areas today.

I’ve been tracking storms on our Exact Track 4D radar, and the rain is coming down especially hard from St. Augustine up through World Golf Village.

If you’ve glanced outside in places like Jacksonville Beach, St. Johns County, Atlantic Beach, Palm Coast, and Flagler Beach, you’ve probably noticed the showers moving in from the coast.

This rain isn’t here alone; thunderstorms are expected through the afternoon. These storms are forecast to move in and out, with rainfall picking up at times.

Most of Jacksonville was dry for a short time this morning, but some neighborhoods like Deerwood Club and Greenland already caught some early showers.

Over the next five days, rain is not expected to let up. We’re looking at 2 to 3 inches of total accumulation in some spots, predominantly along the coast and corridors near I-95.

If you catch any interesting photos or videos of the rain moving through your area, don’t forget to share them with us on SnapJAX at https://www.news4jax.com/snapjax/.

Coastal flood advisory and wind risks

The coastal flood advisory is something we Floridians keep an eye. Flooding doesn’t happen all at once, it’s a slow process, especially when high tides are involved.

Right now, sustained winds are hanging out in the teens and 20s along the coastline. Other areas are seeing calmer air, but don’t count on that lasting all day.

Gusts are forecast to jump to 30 mph by 7 a.m., especially near the beaches as the kids head out in the morning, and then hang in the low to mid 20s through the late morning and early afternoon.

Wind and rain together are the biggest story we’re watching on The Weather Authority today.

Five-day outlook and tide timing

Looking ahead, the extended outlook calls for a very wet stretch through the rest of the week. Expect recurring rounds of showers and thunderstorms—Exact Track 4D says this pattern is likely to stick around for several days.

With this weather sticking around, it’s a good idea to stay up-to-date with the latest updates from News4JAX. Stay safe, stay dry, and I’ll be here to keep you in the loop every step of the way.
