Jacksonville weather turns around for game day: Sunshine, mild temps & coastal cautions

Nor’easter moves out, beach risks remain

Game day weather looks great

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hey friends, I’m News4JAX’s meteorologist Katie Garner with some much better news today. The nor’easter that brought us strong wind and heavy rain has moved out, and you can already see our skies clearing up.

If you’re heading out for the Jags game or hitting the beach, things are looking good. Early this morning on Exact Track 4D, I saw blue skies over World Golf Village and a crystal-clear radar. The beach is just gorgeous right now.

While a couple of light showers might pop up this afternoon, they’re not expected to spoil game day plans. Bottom line, it’s shaping up to be a fantastic day for football and outdoor activities.

Coastal hazards linger along beaches

Now, a few things to keep in mind if your plans take you closer to the water. Even though flooding isn’t an issue today, there is a high risk of rip currents along our coast. That’s something you’ll want to remember, especially if you’re thinking about swimming or letting the kids play near the water.

And again, while we’re mostly dry, don’t be surprised by an isolated shower floating through—we saw it in the futurecast, but it’s not likely to cause problems.

Temperatures rise and sunshine returns

Temperatures started out this morning in the low 60s around Jacksonville. It was a little chillier than the usual carpool run for folks farther west, like in Macclenny and Lake City, where readings were in the 50s.

By 5 p.m., I expect us to climb up to about 77 degrees, with plenty of sun peeking out. For the rest of the week, I’m predicting highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and mostly dry skies, with just a few spotty showers here and there.

The Weather Authority 7-day forecast shows us coasting right along with those mild temperatures, so it’s looking very comfortable.
