JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you haven’t already pulled out your big winter coat, now’s the time. I’m letting you know—41 degrees this morning, but honestly, it feels closer to 35. Jacksonville is waking up to some truly cold mornings, and it’s not just us—the further inland you go, the colder it gets, dipping into the 30s.
We have a Freeze Warning in effect, especially hitting Georgia, but it’s smart to take extra care in all of Northeast Florida, too. Please bring your pets inside and cover up any sensitive plants because these temperatures can be dangerous overnight.
If you’re dropping off kids at the bus stop, give yourself a little extra time to warm up the car, or just make sure everyone’s bundled up tight. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll even find a surprise five dollars in your old coat pocket like I did recently!
Dry spell fuels drought concerns
Let’s talk about our Exact Track 4D radar. You might notice we’re in the middle of a dry stretch—no rain in sight for the next seven days. It’s nice not to deal with soggy mornings when it’s this cold, but we could really use that rain. Right now, we’re experiencing drought conditions, and this forecast isn’t likely to help much.
The weekend brought some showers, but it just wasn’t enough to break the drought. I’m watching the models closely in case things shift next weekend, but as of now, we’re expecting more dry skies ahead.
Looking ahead: Week’s temperatures
Today you can expect partly cloudy skies with a high near 59 degrees. Tonight, things dip back down to 37 under clear skies. Tomorrow, we’ll warm up a bit—highs are forecast around 68 degrees, which should feel pretty nice after our recent chill.
The longer-range outlook shows our highs bouncing between the upper 50s and upper 60s through the weekend, but those lows will keep hovering in the 30s to 40s. So, every morning for the next several days, make sure you’ve got that coat handy.
The good news? By the weekend, there’s plenty of sun forecast and a bit of a warming trend—perfect for any outdoor plans you may have.
