80s on tap before sharp weekend cooldown

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – I’ve been loving how mild it’s felt this week, and if you’ve stepped outside early today, you might have noticed we’re off to a pretty warm start again. Right now, we’re looking at temperatures in the mid-60s for Jacksonville and the coast, with a bit of patchy fog in spots like Palm Coast that’s likely to clear up by 9 a.m.

The big headline? We’re headed right back to the 80s. That’s a huge jump above our average high of about 65 degrees for this time of year. But don’t get too comfortable—there’s a cold front expected to move through by the weekend. Once it passes, we’ll see a drop to the upper 60s for highs, and overnight lows will settle much closer to what we’d usually expect in January.

If you’re thinking those 80s feel a little out of place for January, I’m right there with you! Still, it’s a great excuse to get outside before the chill returns.

Jaguars game forecast looking ideal

Let’s talk football weather because I know a lot of you are looking forward to catching the Jaguars take on the Bills this Sunday. Conditions are expected to be just about perfect — we’re forecasting partly sunny skies, with temperatures around 62 degrees by the 1 p.m. kickoff. There’s a slight 20 percent chance for a shower on Saturday as the front comes through, but by game time on Sunday things should be mostly dry.

Ice cold drinks, hot dogs, and a comfy seat in the stands? I can’t imagine a better setup for cheering on the Jags. Personally, I’m betting on football weather you can brag about.

Gardening tips for the dry spell

If you’re getting out in the yard this week, keep in mind that rain chances are staying low, and we are officially in a drought. That means you’ll likely need to water your plants and lawn by hand, but make sure to do it wisely — conserve where you can!

Humidity is sticking around, so mornings may feel a bit muggy before the sun dries things out. Expect partly cloudy skies, a light breeze of about 5 to 10 mph, and mild afternoons, especially ahead of the weekend cool-down.
