Wintry Mix Expected in Parts of Southeast Georgia Sunday

Another blast of cold air will move in Sunday through early next week

A system will move into our area on Sunday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Our pattern will remain active as we head into the new week. A strong front will usher in another blast of cold air early next week and the potential for a wintry mix for a portion of southeast Georgia.

Ahead of it, the rest of the day will be partly to mostly cloudy and mild with temperatures near 70 degrees. Cloud cover will increase this evening ahead of our next strong front, which will bring much colder air into our area early next week.

Temperatures early tomorrow morning will be in the 40s and 50s, and will quickly drop into the 40s as colder air moves in later in the morning.

With colder air rushing into the area along with some moisture overhead, there’s a brief window Sunday morning for rain to mix with snow across a portion of southeast Georgia. This will be common north and west of Ware and Pierce Counties.

A wintry mix is possible north and west of Waycross Sunday morning.

Winter weather alerts are in effect for areas north and west of Ware and Pierce Counties on Sunday. None of our counties are under a winter weather alert for snow and accumulation is not expected.

Regardless, a cold steady rain will be likely for our area through Sunday afternoon. The clouds will keep temperatures in the 40s to low 50s for most of the day, well below normal for our area.

A FREEZE WATCH is in effect for Monday morning.

Behind Sunday’s system, another shot of cold air will into our area Monday morning. A widespread freeze is likely with temperatures dipping down into the 20s and 30s. A FREEZE WATCH is in effect during this timeframe.

High pressure will be overhead for most of the upcoming week, which means we will see more sunshine. Temperatures will remain near or below normal through the middle of the week with highs in the 50s to low 60s.
