Extreme Cold Watch, a first for the greater Jacksonville area

Freeze warning, frost advisory issued for Southeast Georgia, Northeast Florida

. (.)

Here comes another Freeze Warning along with a Frost Advisory to wrap up the week.

. (.)

A Freeze Warning will be in effect for inland southeast Georgia from 1 a.m. - 8 a.m. A Frost Advisory will be in effect for southeast Georgia, west of I-95 and for inland areas of northeast Florida from 1 a.m. - 8 a.m.

Seasonal temperatures are expected on Friday afternoon as skies become partly cloudy. All models have decreased the coverage of shower activity, but maintain a slight chance of showers from around 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.

The wrap-around moisture and the rapidly chilling air from a deepening low pressure area could lead to isolated snow showers. It looks like the best chance of those will be over the open Atlantic. The NWS Marine Forecast now includes the chance of snow showers along with very strong, Gale force winds. The chance for snow over inland portions of southeast Georgia are down to as little as 5 percent.

Speaking of strong wind, the biting breeze will increase on Saturday with northwest winds at 20-25 mph, gusting to 40 mph. The strong wind continues Sunday as temperatures fall to below freezing.

An Extreme Cold Watch is in place for wind chill values that could reach the single digits. The elevated northwesterly winds bring wind chills into the single digits by Sunday morning, prompting the Extreme Cold Watch, a first for the Jacksonville County Warning Area.
