High pressure brings mild, sunny weekend weather

Clear cold night expected with a freeze likely for some

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – High pressure will remain overhead for the rest of the day which means we will see plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures. Temperatures for the rest of the day will be in the low 60s.

Frost and freeze alerts are in effect for our area.

Tonight will be clear and cold with temperatures in the 30s and 40s. A frost/freeze is likely for areas north and west of the metro.

High pressure will remain in control on Sunday. We will see plenty of sunshine with temperatures in the 60s.

Looking ahead to next week, warmer temperatures are expected with a southerly wind. Highs each day will be in the 70s with overnight lows, for the most part in the 40s and 50s. A big change from last weekend!

The latest drought monitor reflects the overall pattern over the past few months. The area of “extreme” drought continues to expand in coverage each week and now covers a larger portion of our area. Most of our area remains under a “severe” drought.

Rainfall forecast for the next seven days.

The rainfall forecast over the extended period does not look promising. The area of high pressure will keep our region dry for most if not all of the upcoming week. That means the deficits will continue to increase when considering the deficits from last year. Several spots are around if not above 15” in deficit.
