Severe Drought Persists Despite Weekend Rain Forecast

From severe to extreme, the drought continues as rain chances increase this weekend.

Goodbye clouds, hello sunshine! Sunny and seasonal temperatures will continue through Friday. Warmer temperatures are expected for Valentine’s Day as skies become partly cloudy. Rain chances will increase area-wide on Sunday with rounds of rain lingering through Monday evening.

Based on current model timing, the beneficial rainfall will arrive Sunday, late morning in southeast Georgia and expand across northeast Florida Sunday afternoon. Rounds of rain, some locally heavy, will continue overnight and through Monday evening. Isolated thunderstorms will be possible, although severe storms are not expected. Heavy downpours could lead to rainfall totals of 1 - 2 inches with some areas receiving more.

Friday: Seasonal and sunny with lows in the upper 30s to 40s for SE GA, 40s and 50s for NE FL. Highs in the 60s to low 70s inland, 60s along the beaches. Wind: NE 5-10 mph. Patchy fog overnight.

Saturday: Love is in the air. Your Valentine’s Day includes sunny skies with warmer afternoon highs. Morning lows in the 40s and 50s. Afternoon highs in the 70s inland, upper 60s to low 70s along the beaches. Becoming cloudy overnight.

Sunday: Here comes the rain! Morning lows in the 50s. Afternoon highs in the 70s to low 80s. Wind: SSW 15-20 mph. Rain chances: 70 - 90 percent.
