Experts from federal agencies, academia and the emergency management community will also be on hand as the leaders work to improve hurricane preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation.
Organizers say the conference offers a national forum to exchange ideas in order to save lives and property in the United States and the tropical islands of the Caribbean and Pacific.
NHC Director Michael Brennan, Florida Division of Emergency Management Executive Director Kevin Guthrie and Asheville Assistant Fire Chief of Emergency Management Jeremy Knighton held a news conference at the event on Monday afternoon.
Brennan shared important upcoming changes to NHC’s forecast and communication products for the 2026 hurricane season.
Guthrie discussed statewide preparedness initiatives for this year, and Knighton shared about his experience with Hurricane Helene.
The conference continues with morning and afternoon sessions Tuesday-Thursday.
