JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Scattered showers and storms will remain in the forecast for the rest of the weekend. Due to an onshore wind, the Atlantic sea breeze will be more progressive and will run into the pinned Gulf sea breeze. This will occur along and west of I-75.
Storm coverage will be highest in those areas and little if any rain is expected outside of those areas. Activity will be most widespread in the afternoon and evening. If you have any outdoor plans, make sure to keep an eye on the sky.
High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s. The risk for rip currents will remain high through the rest of the weekend.
High pressure will remain offshore early next week. This will keep showers and storms in the forecast for areas along and west of I-75 through Tuesday.
The wind pattern will shift by the middle to the end of the upcoming week, which will allow storm coverage to push west of 301 to the coast.
In terms of rainfall, the front will bring beneficial rainfall to our area with some spots picking up around an inch or more of rain. We will certainly take anything that we can get due to the drought.
Regarding the drought, the latest drought monitor reflects the overall pattern over the past few months. Most of our area remains in an extreme drought. An exceptional drought classification remains over the same locations.
