JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman who witnessed a deadly crash Sunday on Lem Turner Road said she and her son were just seconds away from being caught in the wreck.
Florida Highway Patrol said a pickup truck was traveling north on I-95 around 7 p.m. when it left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and onto Lem Turner Road.

The truck then struck a man who was walking on the sidewalk, according to FHP. The pedestrian died at the scene.
Witness Reanna Jackson said the crash happened right in front of her as she was driving with her son.
“I was scared. I was seconds from it,” Jackson said. “I had actually, like, really pressed down on my brakes. It was so much debris. It was so heavy...It was very terrifying.”
Jackson said the crash has stayed with both her and her son in the days since.
She said her son has had trouble sleeping and continues asking what happened to the man who was killed.
“For sure, the pedestrian,” Jackson said when asked what has stayed with her the most. “How he died. How he passed. It was literally, he just blinked. He didn’t see it coming.”
Jackson also said the crash has raised concerns for her about pedestrians who regularly walk along Lem Turner Road.
“They definitely need to put higher walls for the pedestrians, Jackson said. “Like it could have been a woman and her child walking, you know. Anything like that. Now it just feels like nobody’s safe.”
FHP said the 45-year-old pickup truck driver, who is from Fernandina Beach, suffered minor injuries.
FHP did not identify the man who died.
Troopers have not said what caused the driver to leave I-95.
The crash remains under investigation.
