JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Folks across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia should brace for a wet and unsettled start to the week, with numerous thunderstorms, heavy downpours and below-normal temperatures in the forecast.
Another round of showers is likely to push through today, beginning this morning around 11 and lasting throughout the evening, setting the tone for what forecasters say will be an active stretch of weather through at least Tuesday night.
Thunderstorm threat each afternoon, evening
Strong-to-severe thunderstorms are expected each afternoon and evening throughout the period.
Heavy rainfall from repeated storms may lead to localized flooding in some areas. Avoid low-lying or flood-prone areas and never drive through flooded roads.
Below-normal temperatures, breezy conditions
Cloudy skies and increased storm activity will hold temperatures below seasonal norms. Highs Monday are expected to reach only the mid-to-upper 80s across Northeast Florida and climb to the low 90s in Southeast Georgia.
Overnight lows will settle in the lower 70s for inland communities, with slightly milder mid-70s readings expected along the coast.
Winds will be breezy out of the southwest, ranging from 10-15 mph with gusts reaching 20-25 mph through the day.
Rip current risk at NE Florida beaches
Beachgoers should use extra caution Sunday. A moderate rip current risk is in effect for Northeast Florida beaches. Swim with a buddy and near a lifeguard.
