Celebrating Christmas ‘Florida style’ on a tank of gas

The one-tank trip this week stretches the limit of your vehicle’s mileage.

This one is a little farther than our previous trips, but I think it’s worth the drive. It’s Christmas — Florida style. Grab your flip flops and sunglasses as the forecast calls for “sandi” conditions. Oh and don’t forget your camera because you will want to get your picture, maybe next year’s Christmas card, with Sandi, Florida’s tallest Christmas tree made of sand!

Weighing in at 700 tons, or 1.4 million pounds, Sandi is said to be the world’s only 35-foot-tall Christmas tree made of sand. Now through Dec. 31, Sandi’s world-famous light shows run daily. New this year is a synchronized show where water will “dance” and light up in time with the show. Light shows begin every 15 minutes from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

While many of the events this year, including the annual tree lighting, were suspended, there are several holiday activities that continue through the month. All events are subject to change or cancellation. It is recommended to check the activity page and social sites to confirm dates and times and make reservations.

Holiday in Paradise coincides with other local events. West Palm Beach Green Market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The Clematis Street holiday decorations are a short walk from Sandi Land. Looking for a scenic shot? For outstanding views of Palm Beach and Lake Worth Lagoon and the Intracoastal Waterway, take a walk along Flagler.

Enjoy the ride, and if you do make the trip, drop a StormPin of your family and Sandi.
